There are two things I do for organisations: teaching and training their people, and advising on what to build with artificial intelligence, how to build it and when.

Teaching & Training

Sessions that give people a working understanding of AI: what it does, what it costs, where it fails, and how to use it well in their own work.

Every session is adapted to the audience's sector and level, and can run from half a day to a programme over several sessions. In English or Portuguese.

Advising

What to build with AI, how to build it, and when. That covers the whole decision: choosing between the ideas on the table, judging what each would really take, seeing where it would break, and knowing what to do first.

I build these systems for a living: data pipelines and big data processing, classical machine learning (clustering, regression, classification), generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation, and agent systems on the current tooling and frameworks. Mostly on AWS, though I work in other clouds too. That includes the engineering around it, from evaluation and deployment to keeping it running, and I have taken this work from proof of concept all the way to production. I also scope it: working out what a client actually needs before anyone writes a line of code. I have done this for organisations of every size, from startups and small companies to firms at the frontier of technology in their own sectors.

You do not need a data team or an approved budget. An idea is a perfectly good place to start.

Questions I can help you answer:

FAQ

Do you publish prices?

No. Every engagement is scoped individually. Describe what you need through Reach me and I will tell you honestly whether I am the right person for it.

Where do sessions happen?

In person or online, whichever suits you. I travel within Lisbon, across Portugal and abroad. It is all open to discussion, subject to my availability and an agreed fee.

How large can a group be?

Any size, and any kind of group. A session is shaped around who is in the room, whether that is five people around a table or a full department.

How long does it take, and how much notice do you need?

Teaching runs from a half-day session to a programme spread over several weeks. Advising can be a single conversation, a decision worked through over time, or a standing arrangement such as a retainer or an advisory board seat. Either way, I need one to two weeks' notice to prepare properly, and it always depends on my availability.

What languages do you work in?

English and Portuguese.

What do I get at the end?

Whatever is actually useful to you, agreed at the start. Often a written document: the recommendation, the reasoning behind it and what I would do next. Sometimes the record of the conversation is enough. Where it helps to make a decision concrete, I may put together a small prototype. Tell me what would be useful and we settle it before we begin.

Do you do implementation projects?

No, and no software development or staff augmentation either. I do not write the production code: no proof of concept, no MVP, no build. A prototype to settle a decision, yes. Building the thing is a different job from deciding what to build, and for that a specialist firm will serve you better. I work with people who do it well and am glad to point you to them.

Are you tied to a vendor or platform?

No. The advice is independent and I have nothing to sell you beyond my own time.

Do you deliver on your own?

Usually, and I am glad to work alongside your own people. Where something calls for expertise I do not have, I would rather bring in the right partner than pretend otherwise.

Do you speak to the press?

Yes. Interviews, commentary and talks on artificial intelligence, technology and education.

How does invoicing work?

Flexibly. Tell me what works on your side, financially and administratively, and we will sort it out.
